Abstract

The use of research frameworks plays a crucial role in ensuring conceptual clarity and methodological coherence in academic research. However, many studies still employ research frameworks in a superficial manner without systematic conceptual integration, particularly in educational research contexts. This study aims to analyze the conceptualization, relevance, adaptation, and development of research frameworks in the scientific literature and to examine their implications for Islamic Religious Education research. Using a qualitative approach, this study applies a systematic literature review method to synthesize relevant scholarly works. Articles were collected from major academic databases, including Scopus, Google Scholar, and Crossref, focusing on publications between 2020 and 2025. From an initial identification of 47 articles, 17 peer-reviewed journal articles met the inclusion criteria and were subsequently analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings reveal four major themes in the development of research frameworks: conceptualization of research frameworks, methodological relevance in research design, contextual adaptation across disciplinary settings, and the development of new conceptual models. The results indicate that research frameworks function not only as conceptual structures linking theories, variables, and research design, but also as methodological instruments that enhance analytical coherence. In the context of Islamic Religious Education research, the development of research frameworks requires an integrative approach that combines contemporary educational theories with Islamic epistemological perspectives. This study contributes to the methodological discourse by offering a synthesized conceptual basis for developing research frameworks in Islamic education studies.
