Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the factors causing livestock theft in the jurisdiction of the Sigi Police Resort. The method used in this study is the empirical legal research method. Empirical legal research is a research approach that focuses on the analysis and examination of the implementation and applicability of law in society. The types and sources of data used in this study include primary and secondary data. Primary data is obtained from interviews, while secondary data comes from books, scientific works, and journals. The results of this study show that the reasons why someone commits livestock theft are influenced by several factors, including economic factors such as poverty and unemployment; environmental factors, which greatly affect the good or bad behavior of individuals in the surrounding environment; opportunity factors caused by the negligence of livestock owners; and also educational factors. It is recommended that the community, especially livestock owners, ensure that their livestock is properly penned and not left to roam in open areas to reduce the occurrence of livestock theft.
