This research analyzes the pedagogical evolution and structural integration of the educational system at Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Sukorejo Islamic Boarding School in Situbondo throughout the 20th century. Utilizing a qualitative historical method (heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography) , this study re-evaluates the institution’s shift from traditional salaf methods to an integrated national curriculum. Uniquely, unlike previous historical studies that merely periodize pesantren history, this study reveals a "moderate-traditionalist" pedagogical model that functions as an active living history framework. The findings demonstrate that educational transformation occurred through a dual-preservation mechanism: maintaining classical manuscript (kitab kuning) analysis to foster critical cognitive skills while embedding formal institutions (schools and universities) under Yayasan Ibrahimy to fulfill national academic standards. Furthermore, the study offers a novel practical paradigm by illustrating how Sukorejo’s institutional archives, struggle relics, and physical architecture serve as empirical primary learning sources for higher education courses such as Integrated Management and Islamic Educational History. This framework offers contemporary Islamic higher education an operational blueprint for bridging traditional religious authenticity with modern academic demands.
