Abstract

Loan sharking practices have existed since 2023 due to the need for capital and the absence of formal financial institutions, as well as a simple debt receivable mechanism without complicated procedures and requirements, and debt repayment using a daily installment system. Loan sharking hurts the welfare of fish traders. Prosperity is achieved when material and spiritual needs are met. Loan sharks only meet material needs, but not spiritual ones. The practice of usury (riba) practiced by loan sharks violates Islamic economic principles, namely justice, ta'awun, and maslahat.
