OPTIMIZATION OF FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

The purpose of this article is to describe how learning facilities and infrastructure are governed so that an educative environment for young learners can be established at Buah Hati Kindergarten (Bhakti Kartini Education Foundation). Five areas were reviewed: how needs are planned, how items are procured, how they are put to use, how they are cared for, and how they are appraised. A descriptive qualitative design was adopted, with material gathered through an interview with the school principal as key informant, observation of the condition and use of the centre's provision, and study of the documents recording it, then processed by condensing the material, displaying it, and inferring conclusions. Two areas, namely planning and day-to-day use, were found to operate well and to underpin the learning of young children effectively. Procurement, upkeep, and appraisal, by contrast, reached only an adequate level, held back by tight resources and by the lack of a formal appraisal instrument. The article concludes that the governance of facilities and infrastructure matters considerably in building an educative learning environment, yet several areas still require strengthening before such management can be called optimal
